Aurebesh, the Basic Galactic Language. #Swtor #StarWars

Aurebesh is a written language used to represent spoken Galactic Basic and is the most commonly seen alphabet in the Star Wars franchise.

The alphabet was based on shapes designed by Joe Johnston for the original trilogy, which are briefly featured in screen displays in Return of the Jedi. Johnston’s design, called Star Wars 76, was created into a font and again used in Attack of the Clones by Metschan, who incorporated the font alongside the later Aurebesh version used in the spin-off products.

In the early 1990s, Stephen Crane, art director at West End Games, became intrigued with the shapes as they appeared on the Death Star. He sought to develop them into an alphabet to be used in West End Games’ licensed Star Wars products, primarily to allow players to render their characters’ names, and received permission from Lucasfilm to do so as long as it was presented as one of many alphabets in the Star Wars galaxy, not the sole and exclusive alphabet. After copying the letters from screenshots by hand, he standardized the letters based on shapes similar to the Eurostile font. He named and assigned a value to each letter, and derived the name “Aurebesh” from the names of the first two letters: aurek and besh. Once Crane completed the alphabet, Lucasfilm requested a copy to distribute to other licensees.

In anticipation of the December 2015 release of The Force Awakens, Google Translate added a feature to render text into Aurebesh in November 2015.

Shae Vizla. Mandalore the Avenger

Mandalore the Avenger, born as Shae Vizla, is a female Human Mandalorian and Bounty Hunter. She was known for her assistance during the Sacking of Coruscant during the end of the Great Galactic War, in which she aided the Sith Empire by destroying Coruscant’s planetary shield and attacking the Jedi Temple. During Zakuul invasion on the galaxy, Mandalore the Vindicated was slain in the fighting against Zakuul. Shae Vizla would be the one to take the title of Mandalore, becoming Mandalore the Avenger.

“Another person who would catch our attention later was the Mandalorian bounty hunter Shae Vizla. She was known to have participated in the Battle of Alderaan, and perhaps indeed she was the one who helped Malgus escape. We cannot know for sure, but we can be certain she survived.”

―Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan

Vizla was often employed by the Empire to perform jobs against the Republic, but developed a fierce hatred for the Jedi Order when her brother was killed by a Jedi Knight. She took jobs that would specifically target the Republic, including the Empire’s initial assault on the planet Alderaan. Rumor has it that she was responsible for Darth Malgus surviving Satele Shan’s attack near the end of the battle.
